WINE bottles, cider cans, plastic bottles and detritus from a disposable barbecue were left at a Windermere beauty spot.
Janet Green picked up the litter from Cockshott Point early on Sunday morning (August 6) and took photos of the mess that had been left behind.
Cockshott Point is the destination of one of the famous and accessible walks in the Lake District from Bowness. The 2km circular walk is featured prominently on the 'miles without stiles' section of the Lake District National Park website.
A spokesperson from the Lake District National Park Authority said: "We’re disappointed to see any littering in the Lake District. There is no excuse for spoiling the beautiful place you’ve come to enjoy so we appeal to everyone to leave no trace. Please take your litter and poo bags home and play your part in caring for this special place."
Dropping litter outdoors is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Councils can issue fixed penalty notices of up to £100 when they have evidence of littering, and if the notice is not paid magistrates courts can give much larger fines.
