IT was a weekend of music, fun and mud at the Lowther Estate for Kendal Calling 2023.
The intermittent showers did little to dampen the spirits of the festival-goers heading into the festival grounds.
The festival, hosted on the estate grounds between Shap and Penrith, sold out for the 17th consecutive year.
Founder of Kendal Calling Andy Smith said before the festival: "To all those joining us this year – we can’t wait to see you in the fields and share an unforgettable weekend together."
The final ten pairs of tickets for the festival were available through a charity raffle, raising funds for James' Place and Papyrus UK.
Before the main events began on Friday, people with Thursday tickets were treated to some disco from Nile Rodgers and Chic and both classic and more contemporary indie-rock darlings Scouting for Girls and Black Honey.
Thousands more came to the Lowther Estate on Friday. One of the tents had a screen in it for football fans to watch the England women's squad beat Denmark 1-0 in the ground stages of the World Cup.
Spice Girl Mel C played classics from her repertoire such as Spice Up Your Life, and children's TV presenters Dick and Dom played a DJ set at the Parklands stage. The presenters even received a moshpit when they played Freed From Desire by Gala Rizazatto.
The Saturday headliner for the Parklands stage was former Radio 1 presenter Annie Mac.
Kasabian headlined the Friday, with the set beginning with fan favourite Club Foot. Band member Segio Pizzorno ran up and hugged the front of the crowd as they played their set of stomping rock songs.
On Saturday, the mud started to gather at the campsite.
Many festivalgoers had mud caked onto their boots, with some falling over due to the slippery conditions.
However, the crowd enjoyed sets from Rick Astley and Blossoms on Saturday, and the overall line-up Kendal Calling offered this year.
