BARROW Raiders hooker Nathan Mossop has called time on his career after picking an ACL injury in their recent game with Batley Bulldogs.

The former Millom junior spent almost his entire career with the Raiders after signing in 2009.

He played in 274 games for Barrow with 150 starts and 124 appearances as a substitute notching 52 tries.

However, he did have a short stint with South Wales Scorpions under Coach Dave Clarke who was his Barrow boss when he signed on at Craven Park.

At the age of 35 Mossop decided it was time to hang up his boots and is grateful for the massive amount of tributes on social media, from supporters and former teammates.

Mossop told The Mail about his time in the game and what lies ahead.

He said: "It has been some journey since coming to Barrow in 2009, I have been involved in some great games for the club.

"Winning the League One cup at Blackpool when we beat North Wales Crusaders, Promotion to the Championship twice, and also when we were relegated to League One.

"Another experience was when Barrow went to Canada to play new club Toronto, an experience I will never forget.

"They loved their rugby league in Canada.

"It's ironic that I have to finish with this injury only two weeks after I spoke to Paul Crarey and Steve Neale of my intentions of finishing at the end of the season."

"It was a weight off my shoulders letting them know."

I have sacrificed a lot over the years and have to praise my wife Nicole who also sacrificed so much, for her patience, she has stood by me

"It is time now to spend more time with my family."

Mossop has had his fair share of injuries over the years including Major shoulder reconstruction, left and right arm biceps problems, a dislocated ankle, and a tear in his hamstring.

"I couldn't have done all this without the support of my mam and dad," He added.

"They introduced me to rugby at the age of 5.

"My dad has always been my biggest inspiration, and if I become the man he is, I will be a happy person.

I have played with so many great players and Paul Crarey has been in my life for so many years, he is Barrow rugby through and through.

"To the Board and backroom staff and the amazing supporters, I thank you for your support.
