Windermere School saw success in the Northern RYA Regional Junior Championships 2023 as promising young sailors rose to the task.

The future looks bright for the school's Race Sailing program, thanks to Chris Books, the school’s new Director of Performance Sailing.

Taking place at Bassenthwaite Lake in June, 190 young sailing enthusiasts from various schools and clubs showcased their talent and passion for sailing.

Split into three fleets, Onboard, Regatta and Championship, the competition provided an excellent platform for junior sailors.

The dedication, teamwork, and resilience of the 15 competitors from Windermere School was evident in their performances across different classes.

The achievements of Max Rawlinson and Edie Johnson are particularly impressive as the pair placed first in the Mixed Feva Championship Fleet and in the competition overall. They secured their place representing Windermere School at the World Championships this summer.

Frederick Wood and Holly Johnson achieved second place in the fleet, securing the reputation of Windermere School as one of the premier coaching facilities in the north.

Huge congratulations also go to George Allen, placing third in the Tera Regatta Fleet and Jennifer Brooker and Raphaela Gould, who came first in the Girl’s Feva Regatta Fleet. Oskar Dobson and Silas Taylor triumphed in the Boy’s Feva Championship Fleet placing 2nd and to Frederick Wood and Holly Johnson for also placing second in the Mixed Feva Championship Fleet.

Chris Books, Director of Performance Sailing said: “Windermere School can be hugely proud of the Junior Sailing Team's achievements at the Northern RYA Regional Junior Championships 2023. They represented the school admirably and left a lasting impression on the sailing community. With continued training, participation in both regional and national events and the school’s unique facilities I cannot wait to support these young people in achieving all successes of which they are capable.”
