AN OPEN-AIR charity concert is set to take place.

Barrow Raiders will be holding a free concert at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

Supporting local charities, Love Barrow Aid, sponsored by Unite the Union, will provide visitors with musical talent from the area to perform.

The event will be free of charge with Barrow Raiders covering all production costs.

Visitors can donate whatever they can afford by way of admission to one of the chosen charities.

The six charities Barrow Raiders have chosen are Self Harm Awareness For All (SAFA) Cumbria, Advantage! Community Foundation, YouthAbility Youth Services, Alice’s Escapes, Animal Refuge Furness, Physio and equipment for Mia Amor.

The line-up includes The Hairy Buskers, Route 66, The Native Cult, Jordan Gaffney, Orinoco, Insula, Harry Styles Tribute and Rihanna Tribute.

Steve Neale, chairman of Barrow Raiders, said: "We are looking into doing something special for Barrow and making a free entry event, but we are looking for people to donate to our chosen charities.

"In January we asked the Barrow public which local charities would be the most worthwhile, so we picked the six most popular.

"We are really looking forward to it and we are hoping it becomes an annual event.

"Over 1,200 people have committed to coming by registering online, so if it is a nice sunny day, we are hoping that it gets to 2,000 or 3,000 people, which would be great for the acts who are playing.

"This event is a really good thing for Barrow because I think Barrow sometimes misses out on good festivals so we are trying to do something good for Barrow and at the same time raise money for some worthwhile charities."

On the day of the event, visitors have to bring their tickets and at the entrance, put the ticket and donation in the respective bucket.
