CUMBRIA Fire has released an update after the blaze on Salthouse Road in Barrow this evening.
A statement said: 'Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service confirms that a property fire on Salthouse Road in Barrow-in-Furness has been declared a major incident, necessitating a multi-agency response. The safety and well-being of those affected remains our top priority.
'At around 5 p.m. on June 22nd, 9 fire engines and a number of specialist units from Cumbria and Lancashire were dispatched to Salthouse Road in response to reports of a large fire at a residential property.
'Teams worked tirelessly to contain the fire, which was affecting a row of terraced properties, and to ensure the safety of nearby residents. Their quick and efficient actions have significantly helped to alleviate the situation.
'While the cause of the fire is being investigated, we urge the community to remain vigilant and prioritise fire safety measures. It is critical to keep smoke detectors in working order, fire extinguishers easily accessible, and evacuation plans reviewed and practised on a regular basis.
'Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.'
