One of the world’s most popular golf YouTubers that made his way through Cumbria in the sweltering heat on a golf cart has successfully raised £50,000.

Golf YouTuber, Rick Shiels, boasts over 2.5m subscribers and passed through the county on Tuesday (June 12) on day three of his 500km challenge. His aim was to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK as he rode from St. Andrews in Scotland, through Carlisle down to Lancaster to this year’s Open Championship venue, the Royal Liverpool.

The 36-year-old traversed the challenging route on a bespoke two-seater golf cart – affectionately named ‘Barry’ - over four days and battled broken chains, failing gears and soaring temperatures to complete the challenge.

The final days of Rick’s epic Tour saw him navigate the hills of Cumbria and Lancashire before he triumphantly crossed the finishing line at the Royal Liverpool, greeted by friends, family and fans.

Rick said: “I thought last year’s #Walk150 challenge and the London Marathon were tough, but nothing compares to the past four days.

“It’s without doubt the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s also been so rewarding, humbling and inspiring to see the donations and messages coming in.

“I wanted to use my platform to shine a light on prostate cancer, especially during Men’s Health Week, and I’ve been blown away again by the public’s response and generosity. This challenge has also hammered home just how many men and families are affected by the disease, and how important it is that the golf community continues to back Prostate Cancer UK.

“I want to thank my superb team, the amazing golf clubs that hosted us along the way, Prostate Cancer UK and of course my family for their incredible support, and everyone who donated.

“Plans are already underway for next year’s challenge but, before then, I’m going to put my feet up and take in what promises to be another fantastic Open Championship next month.”

Rick managed to raise the staggering amount during Men’s Health Week (June 13th-19th) and in the build-up to Father’s Day,. You can still sponsor rick by justgiving.com/page/cycle500.
