A COMIC bookshop has announced its closure amid low footfall and a drop in sales.

Atomic Comica Comics at 21 Cavendish Street in Barrow shared on social media that it will be closing its doors on July 15.

The post said 'rising costs, no footfall and poor overall performance' were among the reasons for closure.

The post said: "Well, this is something that I didn't foresee writing, but unfortunately, it's true.

"We are closing down, and our last day of trading will be July 15.

"With considerable rising costs, no footfall and poor overall performance, a decision needed to be made.

"I am so sorry to let you all down, but I can not keep your local comic store afloat.

"For all pre-order customers, your items will continue to arrive into early July but will abruptly stop thereafter.

"If you wish to keep your pull lists, I can offer you another reliable retailer to take over your account. If this is something you would like to do, then let me know immediately.

"For all customers that have credit with us, the remainder will be returned in full. With regards to our ongoing action figure lines for some customers, I will speak to you in person.

"As of now, all back issues are now just £1 each and 60% off everything else, excluding new titles, obviously.

"Any questions, queries or concerns, please get in touch.

"Again, my sincere apologies."

Atomic Comica Comics sells past and present comics, offering the very latest in comic books, graphic novels and related merchandise.

Luke Askew has run the independent store for several years.
