ONE of the world’s most popular golf YouTubers is currently making his way through Cumbria in the sweltering heat on a golf cart.

Rick Shiels is passing through the county on day three of his challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK as he marks the 2023 Open Championship.

He began his epic 500km cycle on June 10 travelling from St Andrews, Scotland, to Biggar and finished the Biggar to Carlisle stretch yesterday (June 11). Today, with temperatures set to hit 28C and thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon, Rick will make his way from Carlisle down through South Cumbria and on to Lancaster.

The 36-year-old, who has 2.57m subscribers, is traversing the hilly, challenging route on a bespoke two-seater golf cart over four days joined by other famous golfing and YouTube faces - including Sky Sports Golf presenter, Iona Stephen. The public also has the chance to join Rick on various stretches of the journey.

Before the challenge, Rick said: "Cycling across Scotland and Northwest England on a golf cart ‘bike’ will pose as an entirely different challenge and I’m sure in some ways it’ll be even tougher, but I’m excited to be joined by some of my good friends from golf and YouTube, raising more money for an excellent cause, Prostate Cancer UK.

"Last year it was so inspiring to read all the amazing messages from men affected by prostate cancer and their families, thanking me for what I was doing, but it also highlighted why raising money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK is so important, especially as it’s Men’s Health Week too during the challenge."

Today's 70-mile ride will see him end at Lancaster Golf Club for a meet-up. Tomorrow, he will navigate the hills of Lancashire before he crosses the finishing line at the Royal Liverpool golf club, which hosts the 151st Open Championship this July.

This challenge comes a year after he raised £127,000 for Prostate Cancer UK by walking 150 miles from Prestwick Golf Course to St. Andrews over six days carrying his trusty golf clubs on his back.

Prostate Cancer UK, alongside supporter fundraising challenges, gives men the power to navigate the most common cancer in men by busting common misconceptions, and sharing accurate health information to help men make the right choices.
