MINNIE'S Scrapbook: A journey in the footsteps of Minnie Pratt has been longlisted for the Lakeland Book of the Year Awards 2023.
The book follows Gary Johnston's journey from discovering a scrapbook full of beautiful art at a flea market to finding out about the life of Minnie Pratt.
Minnie was an artist who died virtually unknown in Ulverston in 1980. Years later, Gary discovered the scrapbook and through social media found out about her life, and was able to link her drawings to the various places in the Furness peninsula and across the world she visited.
The drawings, the scrapbook, and Minnie's life eventually became the subject of a Dock Museum exhibition, which went on until February 26.
Gary wrote a book in November 2022 documenting the process of finding information about her life, which has now been recognised by the awards.
Lakeland Book of the Year is run by Cumbria Tourism. The awards ceremony will be at The Inn on the Lake, Glenridding on Tuesday, July 11.
