CALLING all dog lovers... Barrow's Business Improvement District has organised a summer Pooch Fest as part of the new dog friendly Campaign.

Barrow Pooch Fest will be a fun day out for all the family on Saturday, June 10, starting at 11am at Barrow Outdoor Market.

Barrow BID has partnered with Paulyn Hyde from Scruffy2Fluffy and Maria Murray of Murray's Dog Hotel to bring Pooch Fest to the town.

There will be a dog show with categories to suit every dog, including scruffiest, fluffiest, waggiest tail, best sausage catcher and best fancy dress.

Pooch Fest will also support a number of associated trade stands, including help and advice for dog owners.

There will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy some refreshments, with tasty treats that will appeal to both you and your pooch.

Each competition has an entry fee of £2 per class, and all the money raised will be donated to Animal welfare and a hardship fund at Wild Side Vets.

A Barrow BID spokesman said: “Join us for a day of fun with adorable pups, exciting competitions and delightful surprises. Bring your furry friends and let's celebrate the joy they bring to our lives.

“We are partnering with Paulyn Hyde from Scruffy2Fluffy and Maria Murray of Murray's Dog Hotel, who have a superb track record of running other dog shows in the area, alongside a committee of other volunteers. We hope this will become a regular event.

“We are hoping to see a lot of people and their dogs! With this being our first year, we are not sure how big crowds will get, however initial interest looks very promising.”

As part of Barrow’s dog-friendly campaign, town centre businesses can also register for a free dog-friendly packs, which includes a dog friendly sticker, dog bowl, a jar of dog treats and a help & advice sheet on how to make your business dog friendly.

The most searched item on Barrow's tourism site Visit Barrow is 'dog friendly cafes'.

The new scheme aims to help educate business owners to see an opportunity and to help remove any barriers that may be preventing a customer from visiting their business.
