A FASHION show will be held to display a variety of prom outfits available for free.
Prom for All has been running for around four years and sees members of the community donate no longer-needed, good-condition dresses, suits and accessories suitable for prom.
People then take the items free of charge to alleviate some of the financial pressure of prom.
Students from Ulverston Victoria sixth form have put together the show for students and their families.
“It was the young’s people’s idea", said Nicola Jackson, who brought the initiative to Barrow after seeing it rolled out successfully in Carlisle. "They’ve styled it, they're doing their own hair and makeup, it’s completely organic. They’ve organised the whole event themselves.
“The outfits are going to be modelled by our young people and then they’re will be an opportunity to have a look at our stock and choose anything that they need.
“We have a good range of stock, prom dresses and outfits are worn once for most people. A lot of our items have been loved and cared for and are in really good condition.
"It’s becoming more fashionable to repurpose items and I’d really like that culture to embed a bit more.
"The miles that people are travelling to look for suitable stuff or buying things from abroad, this is in the community.
"It’s accessible to young people who have not made a decision yet or have not been allowed to go until this moment in time.
"It’s a bit of a lifeline for some of the young people in the community to access at such short notice."
Nicola also recognises how the cost of living crisis and beauty pressures can impact people attending proms.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the show and try on different styles and colours to see what suits them.
The fashion show will take place on May 16 at 6.30pm at the Hub Project John.
Prom For All has a stall at the Forum 28 for Pride Day on May 13 where it will be raising awareness of the show and will have a selection of outfits.
