THE Coronation of King Charles III saw celebrations take place up and down the country.

As well as larger organised events, some took to the streets to celebrate with their neighbours.

One of those who enjoyed the fun was Carol Norris who organised a party in Maple Street, Barrow.

“Everyone had a delightful time,” said Carol. “It was a great opportunity to create a little community spirit.

“Covid had divided people and the older generation more so, becoming extremely reclusive.

“The Queen has worked hard in keeping British values, we owe it to her to keep going.

“I'm sure King Charles will serve the country well.”

Carol said she had a ‘lovely day’ at the street party.

She said: “It was a lovely day and we created memories making cakes and food which indeed did bring back community spirit chatting and telling jokes, it was lovely to see the little ones enjoy such a special memorable day.”

In Ulverston around 60-80 neighbours came together on Sands Road for the Coronation celebrations.

Caroline Smith said: “There were 180 scones with jam and cream offered to every house on the Street and Close to enjoy whilst watching the ceremony, and on Sunday a street party.

“The road was officially closed, there was music for the adults, games for the children and ice creams for all.

“The cost was covered through fundraising on the street.

“A great time was had by all and it was great to see all the children playing without the worry of traffic.”
