THE UK R2-D2 Builders Club will be coming to Cumbria as part of this year’s Windermere Science Festival.
Their droids appeared in the latest Star Wars films.
Accompanying club engineer Mark Leigh will be replicas of R2-D2 and Chewbacca – robots that are built to be as close as can be to the films’ originals.
The R2-D2 Builders Club is an international community that builds its own robots from the Star Wars universe.
Visitors will be able to interact with the replicas and hear about the measuring, cutting, painting and electronics behind the droids’ operation.
The festival’s director Nick Greenall said: “We’re thrilled that two of the biggest stars to have ever graced our screens have decided to visit Windermere. The club’s droids have featured at major Disney events and can be seen in the latest Star Wars films. So to have them come to Cumbria is truly exciting.”
The R2-D2 Builders Club will be at the Windermere Jetty Museum on May 13/14.
