Barrow is getting ready to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

The town has organised several events that people can attend and take part in to celebrate this historic occasion.

The Coronation of King Charles is set to take place on Saturday, May 6.

In Barrow’s Town Square there will be a King’s Coronation Street Party from 10.30am-3pm.

There will be a screening of the ceremony from 11am-12pm and free entertainment including Chris Barker, Barrow Sea Cadets, Alan Barnes Dalton Town Crier, South Lakes Rock School, Becki Fishwick – The Vintage Songstress, Abbey Road 4 Piece Band, Voce, BarrowFull craft workshop, face painting, and ukulele workshops.

Residents can feel free to bring along chairs, a picnic and a blanket.

From noon on Saturday, The Farmers Arms are hosting an ‘indoor street party’ to celebrate the coronation.

A spokesman said: “All are welcome. There will be free food provided, teas and coffees. Feel free to bring your own too.

“The Coronation will be shown live, then music and celebrations afterwards with Chris Britton live from 9pm.”

On Sunday, the celebrations move to Barrow Park for the Coronation Concert and Picnic in the Park.

Dalton Town Band will be providing the soundtrack of the event, joined by the South Lakes Rock School Choir.

An event spokesman said: “Join us at the park bandstand for an afternoon of music with a distinctly British flavour as we mark the Coronation of HM King Charles III.

“Why not bring a picnic and a bottle of fizz to ensure things go with a swing."

There is also a Coronation Garden Party hosted by St James Church in Barrow on Monday, May 8.

The event is set to start at 2pm and everyone is welcome.

Some food will be available but you can also bring your own picnic along.
