BARROW AFC manager Pete Wild has spoken about his desire to develop a number of systems for his Bluebirds side.
With three games remaining of the 2022/23 league season, and their playoff hopes ended after their mid-week defeat against Grimsby, Wild has detailed how he has been 'experimenting' with how his team sets up.
"When we had the heavy defeat at Carlisle we changed the system, we went to a three at the back and since we went to that three at the back we have had the second-best defensive record in the league since the 1st of February.
"We are now looking towards next season, and I have been quite vocal in the fact that I wanted to have two systems for next season that we can really use.
"It is looking at the players that we have already got and looking at the systems we want to play, who can play where within those systems," He said.
Wild also spoke on the specific ways he has been testing new systems and tweaking tactics whilst also challenging his squad to adapt to new roles in the latter stages of this campaign, with a view to further development next season.
He said: "I look at Ben Whitfield for instance on Tuesday night at left-wing back, now Ben did that role for two years at Torquay, so Ben knows that role.
"We have tried Josh Kay in a two upfront because we want to see, can Josh in a 3-5-2 play up front.
"Looking at how within a three is the best way to play, is it with one holding midfielder or two, so you will notice in the last couple of weeks we have gone one holding midfielder in front.
"Before we start nailing down the systems we are going to play, let's look at what we already have in the building, and do they suit what we are looking at next season."
