A cheeky red squirrel looks like it's about to take a photo with a camera in these comical pictures.

David Robertshaw, 42, captured the playful red squirrels in Whinlatter forest, Cumbria, over Easter weekend.

The photographer set up a remotely-triggered camera and watched from a distance to see if it would attract any attention.

One nosey squirrel then dashed up and seemingly attempted to snap a photo himself.

David, from Leeds, said: "One was almost pressing the screen.

"They are so fast. You have to shoot at speed. It looks like they are pressing it."

The animal lover trawls up the country to capture the red squirrels which he says are now only Found in a small pocket of the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and in Scotland.

He said: "I love red squirrels and there are not many left."

David loves to take a unique photo and also managed to photograph the squirrels sniffing daffodils on his recent trip to the Lakes.

He said: "I try and get the hours in to get something unique.

"That's what makes it interesting."
