A CELEBRATED wood engraver will share new work at an Ulverston event.
Hilary Paynter, Printfest's Printmaker of the Year, will reveal a fresh view of ancient Cumbrian ruins at Printfest after touring the Furness coastline this winter for inspiration.
Art of every style will be on display at the coronation hall on April 27 for the annual festival.
“We’re so excited to reveal it to people,” said Printfest chair Sally Bamber. “Hilary’s work is exhibited in London, Yale and Beijing and now it’ll be here in Cumbria, showing a local spot of wild, dramatic beauty in her intricate style.”
“We’re really pleased to have 17 artists new to Printfest join us this year,” added Sally. “We’ve also got artists who’ve built a real following here returning with brand-new work, like Mark Pearce, Jenny McCabe and Anja Percival.
“And there’s even more art around town with lots of venues taking part in the festival’s Ulverston Fringe."
“Artists love to come here because we always have so many people interested in meeting the printmakers and keen to chat all things print,” she explained.
As part of this year's offering, there is also a prize for the first time for Young Printmaker of the Year following successful workshops across Cumbrian schools where pupils have been able to produce their own work on this year's theme Printed Landscapes.
Printfest runs until April 30. Last year, over 2,000 visitors attended the event, where a record number of handmade prints were sold totalling around £75,000.
