Churches Together in Kendal held their annual Good Friday Walk of Witness on what was a most beautiful sunny day this year.

Following a service at Stricklandgate Methodist Church, a large procession walked through the town centre, stopping for a short time of worship, readings, prayers and song.

The Walk of Witness stopped at the Market Place, Birdcage, Christian Book Shop at 106, and then the Parish Church.

The walk finished at Kendal Parish Church where the final song was sang -  "When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died" by Isaac Watts, which speaks of the love of God in giving His son for our Redemption.

There was also a Sunrise Service at Kendal Castle, some brave folks gathered together to watch the sun rise on Easter Sunday Morning at Kendal Castle, joining in praise and prayer in remembering and celebrating Christ's Resurrection.

Jonny Gios said: “People looked on, walked past, looked with interest....as Jesus hung on the cross people shouted insults at him but he hung there for us for hope - to pay the price for each one of us. What God did by sending his Son was to give us a way back to God - how much do we owe Him for what he has done for each of us. The Grace and love has for each of us.

“ Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him. Matthew 27

“The walk of Witness happens in Kendal each year on Good Friday - but I ask myself the question; All our lives ought to be a walk of witness and not just once a year....the whole reason I gave my life to Jesus was that I saw my youth leaders living their lives as Jesus followers - they walked the talk so to speak.

“How can we be this week and into this year be good examples of Jesus' Disciples and be walks of Witnesses? A smile to a stranger, a prompt by the Holy Spirit to speak to someone, reaching out to a neighbour and praying for them.

“As Sam, Simon and Eleanor are walking their respected journeys to raise money for Romania - there will be a few that will be asking what will we be doing there? For some who a live in Romania and also Ukrainians who have made Romania their home we partner with Perspective Dane who are seeking to be a walk of witness to them each day. May we be a blessing to the team that are seeking to share the Gospel with this community day in day out. May we bring something that will encourage and bring life. In turn disciple us to be better followers as we walk in the dust of our Rabbi, King Jesus.”
