FURNESS Coastguard is warning people to keep safe on beaches as summer approaches.

It comes after crews were scrambled to two incidents on Monday.

The coastguard said crews were called to support Arnside Coastguard after reports of a person cut off by the tide at Grange.

It was said to have ended with a 'positive outcome'.

As the crew was returning to Furness, they were dispatched to Bardsea after a got stuck in the mud.

Mud rescue technicians were deployed alongside other emergency services.

Furness Coastguard said on social media: "Due to the location the team were on the scene quickly and support was immediately requested from Millom Coastguard, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and Ulverston Inshore Rescue.

"Two Coastguard Mud Rescue Technicians were immediately deployed and started to free the trapped person who was stuck up to their knee.

"Thankfully the team managed to free the person and with the assistance of Cumbria Fire and Rescue service safely recover them from the beach and hand them over to the care of North West Ambulance Service."

Sending a warning, Furness Coastguard said: "Although there were two positive outcomes both of these incidents could very easily have been a lot worse.

"With the weather getting warmer and the start of the Easter Holidays we’re expecting our amazing beaches to be busy.

"We urge everyone to take note of their surroundings and check the tide times whilst at the beach, it may look nice and flat but it isn’t, the tide can come in around you and cut you off very quickly.

"If in danger around the coast, or you think someone else is dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
