THE results of a period of public consultation on a holiday resort earmarked for Furness have been revealed.

Nearly 40 per cent of people questioned said they had a 'below average' opinion when it came to the 'general development concept and masterplan' of the proposed facility, which would be constructed at Roanhead Farm, near Askam.

Around 25 per cent had an 'above average' opinion, less than 10 per cent an 'average' view, with the 'other' category accounting for the rest.

The survey results were posted to the website – roanhead.com – set up to advertise and provide information about the planned holiday park.

More people – around 45 per cent – did feel the resort would 'provide new jobs in the area' than did not.

The development's impact on nature was among the issues identified as being of most importance to respondents, as was the effect on infrastructure such as roads.

Consultation with parish councils took place on November 30 and December 1 of last year.

Public exhibitions in Barrow, Dalton and Askam were then held in February.

The resort would feature around 450 lodges and could have a restaurant, gym and children's petting farm.
