READERS have been quick to dismiss the headteacher of St Bernard's Catholic High School's defence of the toilet policy.

A petition was launched on website Eko, named ‘Open up the toilets for students throughout school time!’ which was addressed to St Bernard’s Catholic High School in Barrow.

It alleged the school was 'having issues with some students vandalising the toilets' and leaders had 'locked the toilets so pupils have to get a pass if they need to go'.

The headteacher Peter Croft said the petition was an ‘inaccurate reflection’ of a new toilet policy put in place last month and that students have provided ‘positive feedback’ on the measures.

Kyryzw said: "I know what st Bernards is like and no one likes the toilet policy what he has said is inaccurate in itself."

BDW BDW said: "Abuse of power and forgetting that children have human rights as well as the staff in school."

KatP said: "It's a joke and embarrassing, I would definitely sign a petition!!"

Furness Abottt said: "Simply catch the vandals. The mindless few affecting the decent majority."

Louise Cook said: "As a parent of a child that remains in this school it’s absolutely abhorrent that she can’t use the toilet when necessary and panics when it’s her time of the month! Disgusting behaviour from a school."

Marion Hardy replied: "So sorry for your daughter and all the girls. Periods never happen at set times. Especially at the beginning. So embarrassing. Common sense and empathy needed. Hard enough to deal with it as it is without making it worse."

Claire Devitt said: "How anybody can think it's ok to make children wait to go to the toilet is beyond me! " You've just had break why didn't you go then" maybe because they didn't need it then ! It's abuse and against human rights!!"

Jadey Rochelle Stangg said: "Can’t see this being policy for long. Not a cat in hells chance would any parent agree to this ridiculous decision."

Jennifer Hill said: "Sorry but students are not Robots, and are not programmed to go every break or at lunch, sometimes you have to go."
