“Working Together”: Tourism attractions invited to meet accommodation providers at free event.

From destinations, days out and attractions to hard-pressed hotels and B&Bs, 2023 has been termed a “make or break” year for many post-pandemic Cumbrian businesses now facing the increased cost of living pressures.

A timely local initiative, rejuvenating long tried and tested methods, is being hailed as reviving vital links between attractions, accommodation providers and tourists.

It’s great news that more people are looking to ‘staycation’ in the UK this year, with gems like the Lake District and Cumbria high on the list.

But, with many traditional direct methods of advertising lost since Covid, how do we ensure visitors find out about the incredible hospitality venues, experiences, views, heritage and activities our area has to offer?

Step forward Elaine Rengers, who has run A-ha! Distribution for over 25 years.

Elaine has set up two free “leaflet swap” events designed to bring Cumbrian attractions and accommodation providers together.

Running from 10am-4pm, the first is at historic Hutton-in-the-Forest near Penrith on Tuesday March 21, followed by the Windermere Jetty Museum on Thursday March 23.

All local hotel, B&B, pub, caravan and campsite owners are warmly invited to drop in, for the opportunity to meet a variety of Lake District attractions, chat about mutual offerings and benefits, swap publicity material, even bag some special offers for their guests, like discounts or free child places.

Exhibitors include Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, Leighton Hall, National Trust and Muncaster Castle and any local attractions wishing to join are welcome Just contact A-ha! Distribution to reserve a place.

Elaine said: “Pre-Covid, leaflet swaps were red-letter events for local providers, now, it’s dangerously easy to assume people use their phone for everything."

“Actually, they’re mostly checking details for things they already know about. A simple leaflet is still incredibly effective for catching the eye and introducing somewhere visitors simply weren’t aware of, and would absolutely love- especially paired with special offers!

“Welcoming, understanding and friendly, we’ve designed these events to help people make valuable and lasting connections in readiness for Easter, the 2023 season and beyond. From the Cumbrian coast to the Eden Valley, by refreshing their knowledge of what’s on offer, accommodation providers can significantly boost their own “guest appeal”. We’re definitely stronger together!”

With free entry, refreshments and give aways, come to a drop-in leaflet swap.
