A 21-year-old with cerebral palsy who achieved his dreams of becoming a radio DJ has been praised for his 'successful' show.

Barrow-born Harrison Holmes has been 'loving' the experience of hosting a weekly show at Radio Lonsdale – a hospital radio station based at Furness General Hospital. 

Harrison's mother Joanne Holmes said: "He can't wait until it comes to Wednesday when it is his show. He just wants to do it everyday. He loves every minute of it. He just comes alive when he is on it."

On his show hospital patients request songs and get well wishes.

Harrison also has a wide audience of listeners outside the hospital.

Mrs Holmes said going on the radio makes him feel like he has got 'a lot of self-worth'.

"When he goes into Radio Lonsdale on a Wednesday to him it's work," she said. "He has got something like his brother and sister do. For him it is the best thing possible that has happened to him.

"Harrison's main mission is to be on Radio 2 and be famous but for me it is to shout from the rooftops that this can be done by anyone. If anyone has a dream to follow, follow your dream because it doesn't matter what barriers you have you just overcome them."

Harrison his seen has an inspiration for a lot of parents, young adults and children with cerebral palsy.

Mrs Holmes said: "I've had a lot of inspiring messages from parents with kids with cerebral palsy saying that Harrison has given them hope that their kids have a future.

"I get a lots of messages saying: 'It was so good listening to Harrison'."

Harrison has been doing radio since he left college in September.

Inviting people on to the show will be his next step.

Harrison's mother said: "He would like to join any radio offers because that's his dream."
