ON-LOAN Barrow forward Richie Bennett opened his Scunthorpe United account against Altrincham.
Bennett scored his debut goal for the Irons as they claimed a vital victory in their fight for survival.
The struggling Lincolnshire-based club are 23rd in the Vanarama National League and facing the prospect of back-to-back relegations after dropping out of the football league last year.
Bennett made the loan switch to Glanford Park earlier this month and made his debut for the Irons in their 1-0 defeat against Eastleigh at the weekend.
However, the Barrow forward's 49th-minute strike coupled with Will Smith's 75th-minute effort secured a first win in four games for Scunthorpe who take on mid-table Solihull Moors next time out.
After the game, speaking to the club's website, Iron's boss Jimmy Dean discussed how he hoped this result can act as a catalyst for his side.
He said: "The tide turned today and that’s two wins in seven"
"There needs to be a little bit of perspective and I know the games are coming thick and fast, but this gives us a good base to build from again with games against teams that are a little more beatable."
