DOZENS of children spent half-term enjoying Barrow’s Kickstart programme which helps young people build life skills.

Over February half term week 48 school children were able to enjoy two full days of outdoor activity thanks to the Inspiring Barrow Kickstart programme.

The children participated in a wide range of fun and challenging activities that drew on various different learning styles at The Kepplewray Centre in Broughton-in-Furness.

The programme, led by Inspiring Barrow, is currently working with six schools in the Furness area to help students develop their teamwork, resilience, communication skills, confidence, and communication skills.

A group of Year 8 Children from Walney School, Furness Academy, St Bernard’s Catholic High School, Chetwynde School, Dowdales School and Ulverston Victoria High School took part in outdoor pursuits during the school holiday.

Students were given the opportunity to participate in a wealth of activities, including canoeing, archery and crate stacking.

After braving the elements the students came together to enjoy a hot-lunch and drinks to warm them up.

The Kickstart programme aims to help young students build life skills and is currently in its seventh year of extracurricular fun.

Recognised as an investment in the future, this out-of-school teaching project is supported and funded by a group of generous establishments including; the Francis C Scott Charitable Trust, Walney Windfarm Extension Fund, Sir John Fisher Foundation, Cumbria Community Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.
