WORKS on a causeway that stretches across Walney Channel are expected to begin later this year, Cumbria County Council (CCC) has said.
The path, which is still in use and runs between the Channelside walkway and the bottom of North Scale on Walney, allows crossings at low tide.
A county council spokesman said CCC had been granted a licence to undertake works and that a new concrete slab was being 'fabricated to replace the damaged section'.

The spokesman said it was anticipated work would begin later this year, dependant on funding being allocated to the project.
Plans that were first put forward last year indicated initial works would be followed by improvements to the full length of the walkway.
