CUMBRIA County Council has announced it cannot collect some large waste items for a few weeks next month.
Between the January 1-23 its Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRCs) will not be able to accept the following types of waste:
- Sofas and armchairs
- Sofa beds and futons
- Kitchen and dining room chairs
- Stools and foot stools
- Home office chairs
- Bean bags, floor and sofa cushions
CCC said: "This is due to short-notice implementation of new legislation relating to waste containing certain types of polluting materials. As a result upholstered domestic seating can no longer be sent to landfill for disposal.
"While our Household Waste Recycling Centres make the necessary arrangements to manage this change, they will be unable to accept such material between 1 January and 23 January.
"We recognise that this will be disruptive for the public and apologise for the inconvenience this will cause. The changes to the law may also affect bulky waste collection services managed by your district council."
