THE first pressure hull unit for Boat 1 has been transported in a 'great moment' for BAE Systems in Barrow.
The first pressure hull unit for Boat 1 has been transported to the Devonshire Dock Hall in Barrow for outfitting before being integrated into the finished submarine.
A BAE Systems spokesman said the move is a 'great moment' for teams delivering the Dreadnought programme.
A spokesman said: "A great moment for teams delivering the Dreadnought programme at our submarines business in Cumbria. The first pressure hull unit for Boat 1 has been transported to the Devonshire Dock Hall in Barrow for outfitting before being integrated into the finished submarine."
In 2016, the House of Commons voted by a large majority to proceed with building a fleet of Dreadnought-class submarines, to be operational by 2028, with the current fleet completely phased out by 2032.
The Dreadnought Class will replace the existing Barrow-built Vanguard fleet and will be the Royal Navy’s biggest, most powerful and technically advanced submarines when they begin to enter service in the early 2030s.
