THE South Lakes MP met with the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to keep a vehicle in Grange.
NWAS currently operates an ambulance to cover the Cartmel peninsula from the station on Kents Bank Road, which it has been doing for the last twenty years.
However, the building will become unavailable in August. This will mean that ambulances from places such as Barrow, Kendal and Lancaster, all of which are at least half an hour's drive away, will have to cover the region.
Tim Farron put together a meeting between NWAS and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, as the solution may be to put the ambulance in Grange Fire Station.
Reportedly, NWAS stated 'categorically' that it wanted to keep an ambulance in Grange.
A petition launched by Tim and local Lib Dem councillors Pete Endsor, Jenny Boak and Sue Sanderson, calling for the service to be saved, has gathered more than 1,300 signatures.
Mr Farron said: "Progress has been made. They are working hard to find a new permanent place. There is an agreement that the station will move to save the ambulance service in Grange.
“The key now is sealing the deal as quickly as possible to give peace of mind to local residents.”
