TWO years of delays failed to stop one smitten couple who enjoyed a ‘perfect’ wedding day with their nearest and dearest.

Helen Lousie Wells, a make up artist, and Gary Reid, an engineer, have tied the knot after changing the date three times due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The couple, who are both 47 and from Kendal, married on May 7 at Carus Green in Kendal.

The pair, who have children from previous marriages, have known one another for many years before saying ‘I do’.

After a rollercoaster journey from proposal to wedding day, Helen and Gary were finally able to marry after two years of delays.

Helen said: “After much anticipation and postponement. We eventually got our big day in May.

“There was nothing I would’ve changed at all. Even all the postponements on the run up to it.

“Everything happens for a reason.

“We took the opportunity to spend the full weekend at Carus and stayed over in Carus house the night before

“We have been blessed with an amazing family and friends who have supported us through the journey to the big day

“Unfortunately due to covid our friends from Australia were unable to attend the wedding and so I was arranging a Zoom link through to them for the day.

“To get the best surprise ever the evening before the wedding was to find Vicky (one of the couples) in my living room - I was elated.”

Helen, who had 11 bridesmaids on the big day, described the day as ‘just perfect’.

The couple was joined by 90 people for the ceremony and further guests for the evening celebration.

She said: “We were all smiling from ear to ear

“It was so lovely seeing people and seeing everyone enjoying themselves after such a hard few years

“We didn’t really want speeches so I said a few words then my brother Adam Carruthers was going to say a few words. But his son, my nephew, Alfie had other ideas and took the mic.

“He totally stole the show by telling everyone what he thought of the day and how he had to be good so he could have some sweets from the sweet cart.

“It was absolutely priceless.

“The dance floor was constantly filled but it always is with DJ Craig Howarth

“We danced right till the lights came on in the hall and then continued to laugh and enjoy the guests into the early hours. We just didn’t want it to end.

“The whole day was just perfect and I would not change a thing.”

The newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon in Tenerife and are hoping to travel to Australia to see their friends in the future.

The couple would like to thank a number of people for making their day so special, including: makeup artist Lisa Barr Blusch, Kayleigh Holleran, Lucy Pearson, hairdresser, Gareth, flowers by Sue Carruthers, the Carus team, DJ Craig Howarth, Carol’s Bridal in Carlisle, A Family Affair in Kendal, Chris Kirk at Bay Photographic and all their friends and family.
