Kirkby-in-Furness is still relying on generators for power.
Following a serious power loss to over 500 homes on Sunday night, Kirkby-in-Furness is still dependant on temporary generators.
One Kirkby Villager commented: “I sent a complaint email and got a phone call today. Apparently it was a transient cable fault - breakdown of insulation.
“I suggested other cables may be of similar age so more issues likely, but they have no plans to replace all the cables nor send the route underground.”
Another villager implored people to contact the council, saying: “The situation is obviously unacceptable and wouldn’t happen down south.”
People living in Kirkby have reached out to MP Simon Fell who replied saying the issues were “unacceptable”.
To many people in Kirkby it seems that power problems are becoming more frequent.
Not only are the power cuts inconvenient but in an age where people are increasingly reliant on technology, it causes serious disruptions to people’s lives, especially if you work at home.
“The house I live in was unconnected from 6:30pm on Sunday night to 11:30am on Monday morning, we were one of the last houses connected to a power source. For 17 hours there were no lights, no phone signal, Wi-Fi or heating. The microwave didn’t work, nor the dishwasher or the washing machine, the TV, everything was off.
“It goes dark at 5pm, so we were sat eating tea in the dark, trying to catch the candlelight. It was boring but being powerless only became a real problem in the morning when I tried to log into an online class for my apprenticeship.”
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “On Sunday evening a power cut affected 551 properties after an issue on an underground cable. Our automatic systems restored power to 405 properties within minutes but an access issue to a private property delayed further restorations with remaining customers restored by generators on Monday morning.
“Generators remain on site and once all safety checks can be completed we will switch customers back to the main network.”
