A DETERMINED Barrow AFC fan is documenting his battle against obesity and he tries to ‘get his life back’.

54-year-old Charlie Walduck, originally from Barrow, once weighed in at more than 50st but underwent an incredible transformation with the help of ITV’s This Morning almost two decades ago, managing to get down to 13-and-a-half stone.

But after the weight crept back on, Charlie made the decision to ‘put himself out there’ by documenting his current weight-loss journey on YouTube.

“I felt like my life was coming to an end because my legs are sore again and I was having trouble getting out of the house and doing anything,” said Charlie, who now lives in Manchester.

A friend of Charlie’s who has his own channel on the video-sharing platform suggested that he start a channel about weight loss.

The Mail:

Charlie said: “When I did stuff with This Morning all them years ago, one of the things that kept me going was the fact that I knew I was going on the TV so I didn’t want to let people down.

“I thought if I do a weekly video it would give me accountability and people would be able to follow the journey and spur me along.”

The call-centre worker says that he has always had a ‘real problem’ with food.

He said: “I just overeat, it’s an eating disorder for me. I become obsessed with it and want to eat all the time. It’s a lifelong thing. So it was difficult for me to put myself out there to say I’ve failed, but I haven’t failed because I was 50st at one time and I’m not 50 stone anymore.”

One of Charlie’s goals is to be able to attend more football games – especially as he is a big Barrow AFC supporter.

“I used to go to the football all the time,” said Charlie. “And being a Barrow fan, we’ve never had it so good. I’ve just not been able to go as much because I physically find it really difficult.

“When I went to a Rochdale game I had to get a taxi there and a taxi home afterwards. I struggled with the basic walking around and getting through the turnstiles. It’s just embarrassing and so difficult. I just want to give myself a chance of enjoying the rest of my life.”

The Mail:

Since starting the YouTube channel Charlie's Last Chance to Beat Obesity, Lose Weight, Charlie has lost an incredible 39lbs – starting at 32st 5lb. The first video was posted on September 9.

“You only get one life don’t you and I don’t want to waste the rest of my life in lying in bed with bad leg ulcers and struggling,” said Charlie.
