READERS have been left debating over ‘deliberately provocative’ humour after the Hairy Bikers criticised comedian Jimmy Carr for his 'not very kind' joke about Dave Myers when he was off Sunday Brunch last year because of Covid.
In their 'Agony Uncles' podcast, the Hairy Bikers talked about receiving cruel text messages or statements from people intending to make a joke.
Barrovian Dave said: "We got talking of Jimmy Carr I remember he was quite inappropriate with us Mr King on Sunday Brunch.
"Obviously due to my current condition you were working very hard and doing a rather wonderful job and he suggested that if I died you'd be alright on your own - which at the time wasn't very kind really.”
Readers were left conflicted over the comedian.
Hazel Beckett said: “I find the majority of today’s so-called comedians not in the least bit funny, including Jimmy Carr. These days, their idea of comedy seems to be all about insulting others in order to get their laughs.”
Ceri Brown said: “Can't stand the bloke, he's not even funny. Sending strength to Dave and Si x”
Carol Mcguinness said: “Can’t stand the man … as funny as a case of haemorrhoids!”
Paul Craddock said: “I’ve always found it very easy to dislike Jimmy Carr! You on the other hand Dave Myers are a genuinely nice guy, stay strong Hairy Biker.”
Paula Holme said: “I wonder how many of the people not taking offence would be offended if it was a joke about something a member of their family or friends were going through if only for the persons feelings whether personal or not????”
Jay Kidd said: “Wow.. the amount of people offended by comedy these days is a joke in and of itself.. it’s only jokes, they aren’t meant to attack anybody, people sap the fun out of everything these days.”
Derry Dover said: “I personally like Jimmy Carr, if you don't like him don't go see him, simple.”
Karl Robinson said: “Nice one Jimmy, don't change.”
Christopher Downes said: “Jimmy Carr is not my cup of tea but his style is to be deliberately provocative, I'm surprised there is so much ‘shock horror’ about this comment.”
Jackie Harvey said: “Never liked Jimmy Carr but obviously some people do as he's been successful on the other hand love the Hairy Bikers and get well soon xxx”
