A BARROW hotel and bar is among dozens included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide’s 2023.

Barrow’s Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is one of the Cumbrian businesses that has been included in the guide, which is celebrating its 50th edition since its creation in 1973.

Director Phil Simpson said: “This is the tenth year we have been in it.

“We’ve been in the guide a lot since we bought the place back in 2007. We’re one of the very few places in Barrow that has cask beer.

“Our total cask sales are equal to our lager sales.

“It’s a huge credit to the people working here.

“We have been examined by Cask Marque who are an industry watchdog and we pass every year.

“Long may it continue.”

One of the other Cumbrian pubs included was Ambleside’s popular Golden Rule.

A spokesman said: “The lady came in yesterday with a new poster for us, and said she said, in front of everyone, that we were in the guide this year.

“Being in the good guide again for excellent beer means so much.

“John is chuffed and long may it continue - it's nice to be recognised for that.

“Next year we’re celebrating our 300th anniversary so watch this space for any events at the Golden Rule.”

88 Cumbria pubs made it onto the prestigious list, with 15 new entries this year.

41 breweries from Cumbria were also included in the ranking.

CAMRA said it did not want publications to release all the pubs listed.
