NEARLY £15k was raised at a farming spectacle which saw droves of tractors come together for a heartfelt cause.

Dozens of tractors travelled around 40 miles of the Furness peninsula as part of the Furness and District Tractor Run which took place last month.

The event returned for a third time after a successful run last year raised thousands for charity.

And this year’s tractor run did not disappoint, bringing together the farming community while raising much-needed funds for St Mary’s Hospice.

Sarah Simpson, communications and marketing manager at St Mary’s Hospice, described the tractor run as a ‘big success’ which returns bigger and better each year.

She said: “We love all the many ways our community come together to support us, in their own unique and amazing ways.

“We are delighted that the Furness and District’s Tractor Run for 2022 has been a big success.

“The event just gets bigger and better every year. It has been another fantastic year, tremendous teamwork, skill and tractors behind it all, thank you SO much on behalf of everyone at St Mary’s.”

And this year a mammoth £14,291.43 was raised from the event which the hospice described as ‘amazing’.

Karen Higgs, 41, along with her partner Alan Irving, 47, organised the event.

She said: “The day gives an opportunity for folk to come together and share a common interest of all things tractors."

The total is more than double last year’s total which raised more than £7,000 for the hospice.

Last year, 50 tractors set off from Grizebeck and took on a rural route through local villages and towns over 30-miles.

Furness and District Tractor Run is set to host a Santa special this December as they bring a touch of Christmas to the area.

Tractors will be adorned with Christmas lights on Saturday December 3 as they raise much-needed funds for St Mary's Hospice.
