COMMUNITY gardeners from many towns and organisations have been recognised at the Cumbria in Bloom awards.
Cumbria in Bloom hosted awards ceremonies in Whitehaven, Kendal and Carlisle.
In Kendal, Cumbria in Bloom Patron Eileen Kirkby presented Ulverston Town Council and the town's Business Improvement District with the Rickerby Ltd Town Outstanding Achievement trophy.
President of Cumbria in Bloom Colin Cheyne presented the National RHS Britain in Bloom Gold Medal award to Ulverston BID chair Michelle Scrogham and project officer Justin Tootill-Wales. He also presented the Cumbria in Bloom Community Champion trophy to Kim Farr of Ulverston in Bloom.
Michelle Scrogham said: “What a week for Ulverston BID and the community groups who’ve helped deliver this result. Visitors and locals have been telling me all year just how great the town looks as we continue to focus on the economic, environmental and additional health benefits that these projects provide.”
The mayor also presented the Sheila Hensman Trophy for School Outstanding Achievement to the youngest entrants - the pupils of Dane Ghyll Primary and Nursery School in Barrow.
At the Whitehaven event, the mayor of Copeland Mike Starkie presented trophies to Bootle, Muncaster and an RHS Britain in Bloom Certificate of Distinction to Beck Bottom Community Garden Group and Keswick in Bloom Underpass Group. Certificates of Distinction also went to South Workington Youth Partnership and Grange in Bloom Station Group.
