Reception class at Dane Ghyll school have made soup using produce from their award winning garden.
The primary school has a greenhouse, large polytunnel and seven raised planting beds, one for each year group as well as a sensory garden, container garden, fruit orchard, rose garden, Viking boat and minion tyre planters made by the children.
On top of growing vast amounts of fruit and vegetables of all varieties, the children of Dane Ghyll keep gardening diaries detailing all of their work.
Head gardener Louise Postlethwaite said: 'We have grown a large crop of pumpkins, marrows and butternut squash in the gardens this year so together with our carrots, onions and leeks this was the perfect recipe for soup
"Reception class practised their hand-eye coordination to prepare the vegetables for their soup. Once ready, the children enjoyed their healthy delicious meal."
Dane Ghyll School have been Cumbria in Bloom winners every year since they introduced school gardening into their competition in 2012 and have won several awards at Holker Garden Festival receiving gold awards and also winning awards at local Horticultural shows.
The school are Harrod Horticultural winners and are currently YPTE -Better Energy School Award regional champions, representing the whole North of England.
