AROUND 200 union members will be striking in Barrow this weekend as industrial action continues over pay, jobs and conditions.
Just 20 per cent of normal train services will run on Saturday as another strike by railway workers brings disruption to lines across the UK.
More than 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Network Rail and 15 train operating companies are expected to walk out on Saturday.
No trains are currently scheduled to run between Barrow and Carlisle on Saturday, and rail replacement buses are being offered for the majority of routes the next day.
Passengers are being urged to “only travel by train if absolutely necessary”.
Members of the RMT and Aslef union in Barrow are due to take to the picket line once again in a dispute over pay, jobs and conditions.
Steve Nott, a Furness RMT representative, said: "It’ll be the eighth day of action in this dispute and morale is still good among members.
"People are firmly steadfast and positive in their resolve to continue to fight for their jobs, terms and conditions and a pay rise.
"The list of demands from the DFT via the operators and network rail would never be agreed to by the members, and we hope as a union that eventually the government will step aside and let the operators and network rail negotiate freely with our officials."

The unions are continuing a long-running dispute with the Government, demanding a pay offer to cope with the rising cost of living.
There are also fears over jobs being lost at ticket offices across the country, with Barrow's allegedly earmarked for closure.
Tim Shoveller, Network Rail’s chief negotiator, said: “Despite our best efforts to compromise and find a breakthrough in talks, rail unions remain intent on continuing and co-ordinating their strike action.
“This means railway staff forgo even more of their pay unnecessarily, passengers’ lives are disrupted once again and the railway’s recovery from the pandemic is further damaged.
“We’re asking passengers who want to travel this Saturday to only do so if absolutely necessary.
“Those who must travel should expect disruption and make sure they check when their last train will depart.”
