A NEW reduced speed limit has been imposed on two roads.

Cumbria County Council has changed the speed limits on sections of the A595 and A5092 between Gawthwaite and Wreaks Causeway following an Engineering Safety Study (ESS).

The study highlighted concerns about collisions and the speed of vehicles.

As a result, the ESS recommended that new speed limits of 40mph and 50mph were introduced.

The county council have now implemented these changes to the existing national speed limit to include:

A 40mph through Grizebeck along the A5092 and A595.

A 50mph speed limit either side of Grizebeck to the existing 40mph at Lowick Green and the west side of Wreaks Causeway.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “The news is excellent for the area and for the local residents as well.

"Public safety is our top priority, so I'm pleased to announce the speed limit changes between Gawthwaite and Wreaks Causeway on the A595 and A5092, have been amended.

"These changes are necessary to ensure that residents and businesses can travel along this stretch of road safely and efficiently."
