SEATS are booking up across cinemas in Cumbria to watch a livestream of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.

Vue Cinema has announced that all films will be pulled from its big screens across the country on Monday and people will instead be invited to watch the Queen's funeral for free.

Concessions stands will also not be selling the usual sweets and popcorn and will instead be giving away free water.

Since announcing the news, dozens of bookings have already been made at the Barrow Vue in Hollywood Park and the event in Carlisle’s Vue is currently sold-out.

A Vue spokesman said: "We will be screening the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in selected UK venues on Monday, 19 September, live from 10am.

“Seats will be free of charge and our retail offering on this day will be limited to complimentary bottled water during the broadcast, with no other snacks or drinks available for purchase. On this day we will not be showing our normal programme of films.

"In addition, we will also screen the London Procession in the majority of our UK venues on Wednesday, September 14, live from 1.30pm. On this day all other screens will be open showing film content as normal.

"We look forward to coming together as a community to honour the remarkable life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

Ambleside cinema Zeffirellis will also be screening a free live link of the funeral proceedings on Monday.

Dorothy Smith, managing director of Zeffirellis and Fellinis, said: “Like a great many, we are all deeply saddened by the death of our Queen. Our condolences and thoughts are with her family and our many close friends and guests who share a very deep and personal connection with Her Majesty and the Royal family.

“On Monday 19 we hope to screen the free live link via the BBC of all proceedings. Starting with the service at Westminster Abbey at 11am and following with the committal at Windsor from 4pm. This will take place in screen one at Zeffirellis main building. Doors will be open throughout the day from 10.30am onwards. We welcome any who may wish to mourn her passing or raise-a-glass to gather together.”

The cinema will not be screening any other films during these hours in Zeffirellis, Zeffirellis by the Park or Fellinis.

The 5.45pm and 8pm showings of ‘See How They Run’ will still be shown at Fellinis as will the 8.25pm Top Gun Maverick and 8.20pm Elvis at Zeffirellis. Zeffirellis by the Park will not be open. Both Zeffirellis and Fellinis restaurants will be open as normal.
