A LAKE District adventure company has won the Cumbria Tourism award for Accessible and Inclusive Provider 2022.

Chris and Vicky Binks are the founders and operators of the Anyone Can adventure company, which has been in operation since 2020.

However, this is the first year they have been able to enjoy unrestricted business following the lockdown.

The company is popular for providing inclusive adventure experiences for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Chris said: “Anyone Can was launched during the first pandemic. It popped up around the spring of 2020.

“We promptly had to close soon after due to the lockdown.

“This has been the first year where we have had unrestricted business which we are very happy with.

“We were first operating and working things out round the restrictions, even as this is the first proper year, we did a few things in the early days.

“We are based in Windermere but the whole of the Lake District is our location.

“We do a lot of sailing, canoeing and we sometimes travel over the border into Yorkshire for some caving and climbing.

“There are a lot of trips we do in Scotland and sometimes abroad which we love to do.

“Me and Vicky have both worked in and around organisations that work with people who live with disabilities doing outdoor stuff. We trained people up to be able to provide for people with disabilities.

“It was all about introducing people to cool stuff, but then we saw that once they were trained there weren’t any organisations that offered these services. They had nowhere to go.

“So, we thought we would make it ourselves.

“We have taken people to do sailing at sea, climbing in Spain and adventures in Scotland.

“Getting the Cumbria Tourism award was incredible. We got it for Accessible and Inclusive Provider, which meant so much.

“It feels amazing after having only really been able to do it properly for a year.

“We are focused, and it’s really nice to have people recognise our work.”
