A MAN sent vile threats to the mother of his child after they had a row over her choice of godparents, a court heard.

Daniel Green sent a number of abusive voice messages to his former partner of seven years over Facebook while he waited outside her house.

The 36-year-old admitted sending an offensive or menacing messages to Carly-Anne Anderson when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

"The complainant said on June 9 she received a voice message from the defendant," said prosecutor Peter Kelly.

"It seems the defendant was unhappy about the proposed godparents and made that clear."

The court heard in the expletive-laden threats, Green told her 'who do you think are?' and 'you think you are bad'.

The victim said Green was 'drunk and aggressive' in the messages.

While outside her home, he also sent a message saying 'come out you little people'.

Responding, she told the defendant to go to bed, sober up and 'get a grip'.

She called 999 and confirmed he was outside the house on CCTV.

The court heard in a police interview, Green said he had no intention to carry out the threats and was 'frustrated'.

In a victim impact statement read in court, she said: "If I go out with my friends I look over my shoulder.

"My biggest concern is protecting my daughter, she's really been impacted by what happened."

In mitigation, Trystan Roberts said 'there are always two sides to an incident'.

"He accepts that he went too far," he said.

"Mr Green had some views about the godparents the complainant had chosen.

"He accepts that he had a drink and made these telephone calls.

"The fact is he said things he ought not to have said."

Mr Roberts said Green had made 'empty threats' to the victim.

Magistrates sentenced Green to six weeks in prison for the threats.

He was also banned from contacting the woman for a year under the terms of a restraining order.
