SCHOOL uniforms are the norm across the UK, but is it time to see them go?

We asked our readers ‘is it time we scrapped school uniforms and let children wear their own clothes instead?’.

Many expressed concerns that it may lead to bullying.

Vikki Price said: “Kids from better off homes will rock up in designer gear and the ones who can't afford it will be bullied for it. Uniforms should be worn but the only item that should have to show the school logo is the jumper. Why the logo needs to be on everything even pe kit is beyond me and pushes up the price. Also, there is no competition for pricing as one outlet is the only place to get uniforms.”

Ange Carter said: “No it would become a fashion show all in uniform is fine then there’s no bullying.”

Andrew Postlethwaite said: “No, it would lead to bullying, thinking kids who aren’t wearing brands as their parents can’t afford the latest stupidly priced outfits. Just make the uniforms simple and affordable again. Grey pants, blue or white shirt and the schools colour tie. No need to brand every single piece of uniform with the school logo either.”

Belinda Porter said: “No way posh kids will pick on poorer but why can't u buy supermarket ones without the school logo?”

Caitlin Werry said: “I think it could be good for us to wear our own cloths just nothing branded stops kids from having the chance to take the mick out of kids with less than them.”

Doris Henry said: “No in my day it stopped pupils who could afford lots of clothes being different from those who didn't, so no class divide. But we didn't have a logo on our school uniforms.”
