VANDALS have struck at a wildlife haven - leaving cupboards and shelves smashed with display cabinets shattered on the floor.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust said it was 'devastated' at another act of vandalism at one of its nature reserves - this time at South Walney.
One of the bird hides was broken into and damaged just two weeks after an estimated £500-worth of equipment was destroyed at the wildlife charity’s nearby Foulney Island Nature Reserve, two weeks ago.
Paul Waterhouse, reserves officer at Cumbria Wildlife Trust, said: “This is a terrible act of vandalism. Our bird hides are very popular with visitors, who use them to view the amazing seabirds we have at South Walney, or to catch a glimpse of the grey seals that can be seen at high tide."
The Vindicator said: "Adolescents associated with someone on the caravan site? Perhaps now CWT will realise that hides are not the best place for historic objects and that artists are ok putting efforts into displays but have little concern for conservation. (Last time I was there (in a hide) it was full of out of date and spurious information)."
Nondumvetus said: "Any CCTV? They had to travel quite a way to get there (and back)."

Cheers."
Dalton said: "Something not right here. A few weeks ago, Foulney was vandalised now this remote site. Could it be some nutter? Whatever, mindless."
The Observer said: "Our country is out of control, only one set of people to blame for the downfall of the UK and that is the rich middle classes, maybe a minority but have so much power and influence. Don't ask me why."
Grumpyoldbiker said: "Nothing to do with class warfare. Respect for property, private or public is just non-existent. What repercussions for the perpetrators? Slapped wrists, no financial penalty, clean up the mess, no. These recidivists laugh at our broken justice system. I don't know the answer and I won't hold my breath for any decent outcome."
