AN Ulverston sax sensation is presenting at an esteemed classical music event.
Jess Gillam will be presenting on the BBC Proms stage which is set to be aired this weekend.
The acclaimed musician will present the show featuring legendary conductor Marin Alsop who is returning to the BBC Proms stage for the first time since 2018.
BBC Proms is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in central London.
In the episode, which is aired at 8pm on BBC Four, Alsop will be leading the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in a programme of fiery repertoire that takes us on a journey around Europe and across three centuries.
Béla Bartók’s blood-curdling suite to The Miraculous Mandarin kicks off the concert, followed by Prokofiev’s electrifying and fiendish Third Piano concerto, for which the orchestra is joined by superstar British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.
After the interval, a new piece by Austrian composer Hannah Eisendle is followed by the main event: Dvorák's sumptuous Seventh Symphony.
Jess will be presenting the event alongside a host of special guests.
She took to social media to share her excitement for the upcoming event.
The 24-year-old said: “Practicing my lines for presenting the TV coverage of the BBC Proms with Marin Alsop, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Benjamin Grovesnor. What a line up! It’s on tv next weekend.”
Fans of Jess congratulated the Ulverston-born star on being a ‘natural’ behind and in front of the camera.
Jess is the first saxophonist to reach the finals of BBC Young Musician and the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.
The musician is returning to her hometown this December for a winter concert featuring festive favourites and music from her classical number one albums.
The show is billed as: “A musical force of nature, Jess Gillam has been forging her own adventurous path since she shot to fame becoming the first saxophonist to reach the finals of BBC Young Musician and the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.
The show will be at The Coronation Hall on December 9.
