Hawkshead Relish have continued their winning ways, collecting two new awards at this year’s 2022 Guild of Fine Food Great Taste awards, bringing their total haul to 80 Great Taste Awards.
After achieving plaudits for their raspberry and vanilla jam in last year’s awards the team took the decision to add another new jam to the range for 2022.
Already in development, rhubarb and ginger jam, was then further refined before being submitted to this year’s judging round to see if it could continue the company’s winning streak, joining previous Great Taste Award recipients including their Sour Cherry & Prosecco Jam.
Happily, all the extra effort paid off and the all-new jam collected two Great Taste stars. But that’s not all, the Cumbrian company also collected a one-star award for their newly improved Sticky Toffee Sauce.
This year saw 14,205 entries being submitted, from 110 countries around the globe, for judging as part of the 2022 awards cycle. During that time, over 500 expert judges digested and cogitated their way through the entries, applying the same rigorous and exacting standards presenting 5,556 products with either a Great Taste 1-star, a Great Taste 2-star, or a Great Taste 3-star award.
The judges’ comments called the rhubarb and ginger jam 'beautifully evocative' with a 'soft and mellow' consistency and 'quite superb' flavour.
While the sticky toffee sauce was similarly lauded.
"A silky smooth, mouth filling and creamy toffee sauce. Gentle acidity balancing out the sweetness. Lovely butterscotch notes with a delicious caramel finish. Just what you want in a toffee sauce," described the judges.
Maria Whitehead, co-owner of Hawkshead Relish said: "It is always wonderful to receive good news, especially when it comes to Great Taste awards, the Oscar’s of the food and drink sector. Adding two more Great Taste Awards to the total we’ve achieved over the years, which brings the total we’ve received up to 80 is a fabulous way of recognising the skill and dedication of the team.’’
