AN inquest into the death of a 37-year-old who died in hospital in Barrow will not have a jury after deliberation in a pre-inquest review hearing.
Rebecca Peacock, from Carlisle, died on October 31 2021, while under the care of mental health teams at Furness General Hospital.
It was the position of the coroner and family to continue without a jury, Cockermouth Coroner’s Court was told yesterday.
The coroner’s position was that the hearing should not sit with a jury so that the coroner could give detailed findings of fact which would not be delivered by a jury.
Following this the review hearing went on to discuss who should be called to give live evidence in court.
The court was told that Ms Peacock had a long engagement with mental health services over a number of years.
No date has been set for the full inquest later this year.
