AS the Conservative leadership race heats up, residents have opened up about what they would like to see from our next Prime Minister.

This comes after Simon Fell, MP for Barrow and Furness, has backed Tom Tugendhat to become the next leader of the country. He said he wants to vote for someone that can rebuild the trust of the public after a poll of his constituents produced ‘no consensus’.

The competition is heating up ahead of the next ballot on Monday. The frontrunners of this contest are Rishi Sunak MP, Penny Moundant MP, Liz Truss MP, with Kemi Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat at the back of the pack.

Tugendhat will be feeling the pressure after gathering the support of just 32 MPs in the latest vote, the lowest of any of the remaining candidates, which leaves him vulnerable when MPs vote again on Monday.

We asked our readers what qualities they want to see in our next Prime Minister.

Mick McGachy said: "Honesty, empathy and compassion."

Sue Calvert said: "The one guy who can handle our money."

Sylvia Stoker said she would like to see Boris Johnson remain in Number 10.

Colin James Rhodes Jnr said: "Investment in the NHS.. a proper wage for nurses and teachers... tax paid by all companies that earn money in the UK."

Julie Jewels Vigus said: "A general election."

David Andrew Eley said: "Honesty, integrity and strength of character to be able to make decisions that benefit the country as a whole ahead of personal or party political considerations. I’d want that from the leader of any political party.

"Like it or not, one of the above is going to be PM and represent our country in the wider global community."

Alison Jeschke said: "None of the above."

Tom Dockerty said: "Fuel at £1 per litre."
