A BARROW pupil has been selected to represent England at the British Senior Schools International in the under 14 age group for table tennis.
Sophie Ackred, of Cheywynde School, will be traveling to Scotland at the National Training Centre in Inverclyde this weekend.
She will be competing against teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man.
Martin Swainson, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Physical Education at Chetwynde School, commented that Sophie is a model student who works hard in everything she does.
"Sophie and her father have been a pivotal part of the school’s table tennis club, which has increased in numbers since the start of the year.
"This is a fantastic achievement and one in which, as a school we are very proud of Sophie."
Keith Dymond, Chair of the Barrow and District Table Tennis League said: "This is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication and the right support.
"Any other schools in the Furness area who like the idea of developing what they offer for playing table tennis should email keith@btp-cumbria.co.uk for more details on the Sport England funding we have available now".
